THE CHARLES HARRISON SCHOLARSHIP IS DEDICATED TO CREATING DESIGN LEGACIES FOR GENERATIONS TO COME.

The UIC School of Design and Project Osmosis announce the UIC Osmosis Charles Harrison Scholarship. Named for the design visionary who connects our shared efforts and ambitions, this award is designed to bridge creative excellence identified in Osmosis minority youth programs with mentorship and financial support for college-level design studies.

Charles “Chuck” Harrison received the Smithsonian National Design Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2008. His book, A Life’s Design, traces his prolific career as a designer and teacher. During the decades when America wrestled with its identity in the streets, an African-American sat with a pencil and gave shape to the American dream, object by object. Many treasured products that turned the house into a home—View-Master to name one—were designed by Chuck. At the ceremony where we awarded our first scholarship to Byron Johnson, UIC Bachelor of Design 2014, Chuck asked that we refer the name of the award as the Scholarship for Honest Design.
